Typhoon DN358 at Hutton Cranswick airfield.

On 29th January 1943 this 195 Squadron aircraft was being taxied around Hutton Cranswick airfield when it collided with a stationary lorry that was parked. The lorry was part of the Air Ministry Works Directorate and it unfortunately caused fatal injuries to the civilian driver. This incident probably occurred following a training exercise beginning at 09.00hrs and with the pilot landing at 10.25hrs. Where the civilian is buried is not known, he was estranged from his wife though the casualty records stated that his brother lived in Market Weighton and may be where he was then buried.

Pilot - Sgt Douglas Edward Frank Potter RAFVR (1317367).

Civilian - Mr Wilfred Hall. Aged 43, of Nottingham. Died of injuries. Burial location unknown.


F/O Douglas Potter was killed on 7th June 1944 with 197 Squadron during the D-Day operations. He is buried at Bernay Communal Cemetery.
