Typhoon DN297 at Church Fenton airfield.

On 14th February 1943 this 183 Squadron aircraft landed with the one of the undercarriage legs jammed at Church Fenton airfield, it was badly damaged on touching down.

Typhoon DN297 was built to contract ACFT/943 by the Gloster Aircraft Co. Ltd. at Hucclecote and was awaiting collection in October 1942. It was taken on charge by 13 MU soon after completion and was then taken on charge by 183 Squadron at Church Fenton on 2nd December 1942. As a result of the accident at Church Fenton on 14th February 1943 Cat.E2/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was struck off charge.
