Master DL577 near Wickersley, Rotherham.
On 28th April 1943 the crew of this 16 (P)F.T.S. aircraft were undertaking a training flight when, while flying at low height the aircraft flew into the ground inverted. Sadly the two pilots were killed and it was thought that the pilot in control was carrying out an unauthorised slow roll at low height when the aircraft struck the ground.

Master DL577 was built to contract B.65589/40 by Phillips and Powys at South Marston and once complete it was flown to 46 MU at Lossiemouth on 28th March 1942. On 10th April 1942 the aircraft was taken on charge by 257 Squadron at Honiley. On 19th June 1942 it was transferred to 16 (P)F.T.S. at Newton. As a result of the crash on 28th April 1943 Cat.E2/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was eventually struck off charge on 13th May 1943. Whether the delay in striking it off charge was because it was initially considered for repair is not yet known.
