On the night of 10th / 11th August 1943 this 76 Squadron aircraft was to be used on an operational flight to bomb Nurnburg and the aircraft took off from Holme on Spalding Moor airfield at 21.50hrs. Outbound the navigator became sick so the crew opted to abandon the flight and turned around. The aircraft landed at Holme on Spalding Moor at 01.07hrs but began to swung on landing. The pilot overcorrected the swing and the undercarriage collapsed.
