At 17.20hrs on 1st August 1943 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was landing at Rufforth airfield following a training flight and, the crew made an approach to land on the wrong runway and the tail plane struck a fence as it made the landing. The aircraft continued to land safely and the damage was soon repaired. The aircraft was soon repaired and it was destroyed two weeks later following a collision and crash over Copmanthorpe with the loss of fourteen airmen.
