Halifax DG248 at Rufforth airfield.

At 21.20hrs on 29th December 1943 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was in the process of taking off from Rufforth airfield when the aircraft swung off the runway. The starboard outer engine throttle control had ben reduced so more power was applied to the port side of the aircraft. The port main wheel appears to have struck a concrete block and the undercarriage was damaged. The aircraft was not Halifax DG245 as quoted in William Chorley's Bomber Command losses book.

Pilot - Sgt David Joseph RAFVR (1576383).

Sgt Joseph completed his training at 1663 H.C.U. and was posted to 76 Squadron in January 1944. On 18th March 1944 he was made a PoW when Halifax LW655 was shot down on Ops to Frankfurt.
