Halifax DG248 at Rufforth airfield.
On 4th July 1943 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was being flown on a training flight when, on take off from Rufforth airfield a tyre burst. The crew managed to get the aircraft safely into the air but on landing at 00.20hrs the undercarriage collapsed. The pilot was commended by the station commanding officer for his excellent landing considering the difficulties.
