Spitfire BM491 at Catterick airfield.

At 10.25hrs on 22nd October 1943 this 130 Squadron aircraft took off from Catterick airfield to undertake a formation flying training exercise. The aircraft took off toward the sun and while the pilot was watching the lead aircraft he unfortunately clipped trees that were in his path. He was able to remain in control and returned to the airfield where he landed safely. The trees were deemed to have been an obstruction.
