Spitfire BL927 damaged in the air near Tholthorpe, landed safely (probably at Church Fenton airfield).
During the morning of 13th May 1943 this was one of three 308 Squadron aircraft that was flown on a training exercise that included flying low to make practice attacks on a ground target. Its purpose was to simulate an attack on a reconnaissance vehicle column. At 10.40hrs the aircraft were flying low in the Easingwold area and making a mock attack near Tholthorpe when the pilot of this aircraft got too close to the lead aircraft and the slipstream from the lead aircraft caused the pilot of this following aircraft to temporarily loose control. The Spitfire struck a tree before the pilot regained control and presumably landed on an airfield, possibly back at where the squadron was based at Church Fenton.
Pilot - Sgt Stanislaw Domanski PAF (P/782357).
