Halifax BB213 at Riccall airfield.

During the morning of 27th January 1943 this 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was being flown on a training flight. Fifteen minutes after taking off a landing was made at Riccall at 09.30hrs but the brakes failed to stop the aircraft, fearing it would crash into buildings the pilot swung the aircraft and the undercarriage collapsed.

Warrant Officer Kent was posted in to 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit from 102 Squadron on 6th January 1943.
Halifax BB213 was built to contract B.124357/40 by London Passenger Transport Board Ltd. at Leavesden. The aircraft was first taken on charge by 158 Squadron at East Moor on 9th August 1942 before going to 1658 Conversion Flight at Riccall on 9th Augsut 1942. As a result of the landing accident there on 27th January 1943 minor Cat.B/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired by Handley Page almost certainly at Clifton airfield. Once servicable on 10th April 1943 it was flown to 48 MU where it was stored. On 10th November 1943 the aircraft was taken on charge by 1661 H.C.U. at Winthorpe before passing to 1662 H.C.U. at Blyton on 26th November 1943. On 22nd February 1944 it crashed on landing at Blyton, after assessment it was deemed beyond repair, Cat.E1/FA damage was recorded and the aircraft was struck off charge on 29th February 1944.
