Spitfire AR437 at Catterick airfield.
On 7th February 1943 this 401 Squadron aircraft was flown from Thornaby back to 401 Squadron's home airfield at Catterick. It took off from Thornaby airfield at 15.05hrs but on landing at Catterick at 15.15hrs the aircraft overshot and struck a shelter on the airfield perimeter. The pilot was inexperienced on the Spitfire type and had not appreciated the small size of the airfield. The aircraft received minor Cat.Ac damage.
