On 3rd June 1943 this No.1 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft was damaged at Thornaby airfield when it swung on take-off which caused the undercarriage to collapse.
Crew - Names unknown.
Hudson AM574 was built by Lockheed-Vega at Burbank, California and purchased without contract by the B.P.C. It was delivered to the UK by sea and arriving in May 1941. It was immediately assessed by No.43 Group Damage Assessors on 27th May 1941 which resulted in a Cat.Ac damage assessment. Once repaired it then passed to 23 MU on 25th August 1941. It was taken on charge by No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit on 14th February 1942. It was passed to 25th July 1942 then went back to 6 (C) OTU on 2nd September 1942. On 4th November 1942 it passed to 3502 S.U at Gosport then went to No.1 (C)O.T.U. on 21st December 1942. The incident on 3rd June 1943 is not recorded on the AM Form 78. It was probably a Cat.A/FA damage assessment that saw a repair on site. On 15th November 1943 it went to Cunliffe Owen and on 17th January 1944 it passed to 29 MU. After August 1944 no record of it was made on the AM Form 78.
