Spitfire AD509 at Hutton Cranswick airfield.

Over the night of 13th / 14th July 1943 this 308 Squadron aircraft was flown on a night training exercise. The aircraft was in the air for nearly two and a half hours. On the approach to land at Hutton Cranswick at 00.50hrs the pilot found that the undercarriage would not lower so he went on to land the aircraft on the airfield with the undercarriage retracted.

On 22nd September 1943 F/O Henryk Jurewicz was killed flying with 308 Squadron Spitfire W3440 whilst in combat with a Fw190 near Evreux. He was twenty four years old and is buried at Evreux Communal Cemetery, France.
