Spitfire AD299 near Hutton Cranswick airfield.

On 22nd June 1943 this 315 Squadron aircraft was one of twelve that were flown from Hutton Cranswick airfield to Martlesham and then flew a support flight following USAAF Fortresses returning from bombing Rotterdam. This went without incident to this squadron's aircraft and later in the day the Spitfires flew back from Martlesham to Hutton Cranswick. While in the circuit of the airfield at Hutton Cranswick the engine of Spitfire AD299 failed owing to fuel shortage. The pilot made a belly landing at in a field ajoining Hutton Cranswick airfield at 14.25hrs but received minor head injuries.
