Spitfire AA974 at Catterick airfield.

In bad visibility at 18.00hrs on 23rd July 1943 this aircraft overshot on landing at Catterick airfield when the flaps failed to work while being flown on a ferry flight by a pilot of No.4 Delivery Flight. The aircraft was damaged, probably suffering an undercarriage collapse. A rubber diaphram in the flap selector was found to be torn which meant the selector did not work. No.4 Delivery Flight was based at Heston on this date but had moved there from Turnhouse just three days previously.

Pilot - Sgt Edgar Harrison RAFVR (1231448).
