Unidentified Mosquito at Clifton airfield?
On 5th May 1943 a Mosquito is believed to have crash landed on Clifton airfield and suffered repairable damage.
Clifton airfield's record book listed the aircraft as it being one belonging to 1655 Training Flight (the correct name was actually 1655 Mosquito Training Unit) but this flight was not in existance at the time having been disbanded at Marham on 30th April 1943 and it then reformed at Finmere on 1st June 1943. During the period between the two dates 1655 Flight's aircraft went to 13 O.T.U. based at Bicester. Known Mosquitos that were part of the transfer were DK292, DK288, DK323, HJ854, HJ856, HJ858, HJ863, HJ868 and HJ875 but 13 O.T.U. almost certainly had other Mosquitos for a short time; stated elsewhere as being in the region of fifteen Mosquito IV's and five dual control Mosquitos. There was an incident at Clifton on this date but the events are not yet fully known with the aircraft possibly belonging to 13 O.T.U..
