On 5th September 1943 the pilot of this aircraft lost control and baled out, leaving the aircraft to crash around three miles south of Melbourne. I have yet to buy the USAAF accident report for this incident to gain more details. Three miles south of Melbourne would put the crash site on land near the village of Laytham.
