Unidentified Tomahawk (AK161?) at Catterick airfield.

On 23rd January 1943 the pilot of this 1472 Flight aircraft was carrying out his second landing during his first solo in the Tomahawk aircraft, the aircraft landed heavily and it damaged the undercarriage mounting in the port wing. The only reference to this incident that has been located was found in the unit record book and it does not record the aircraft's identity directly. Three days later though the orb states that Tomahawk AK161 was replaced by Tomahawk AK190 and in other cases of replacements in their orb this was due to damage.

Pilot - F/O McNeill.

F/O McNeill was posted to 1472 Flight on 7th January 1943 from 14 AFU.

The unit is given as being 1472 Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Flight in pretty much every modern reference to this number unit that I can find. The 1472 Flight record book gives the unit title as being 1472 (D-B) Flight, or 1472 (Dive-Bombing) Flight. Which is correct is anyone's guess. As the scribe of the orb was there at the time I'm leaning towards 1472 (D-B) Flight being correct.
