Unidentified Wellington between Ellenthorpe and Myton on Swale.
On 13th January 1943 this unidentified Wellington is listed in a police record as crashing some "600 yards south" of Clott House, Ellenthorpe, at 10.50hrs. The aircraft sustained damaged to the propellers and the undercarriage but the crew escaped injury. A police report map reference plotted puts the aircraft being in a field south-east of Ellenthorpe just across the River Swale from Myton on Swale. The identity of the aircraft has yet to be learnt as does the unit it belonged to. I have gone through all of No.6 Group's operational squadron's records and no incident that could match this forced landing is mentioned. Whether it was an operational squadron's Wellington would seem doubtful, it may have been an O.T.U. one just passing through or one being flown to or from an operational squadron here.
Crew - Names unknown.
