On 12th May 1943 the Lindholme station record book states that a Wellington based at Finningley crashed near Sandtoft at 16.30hrs and that the five crew, who were injured, were taken back to Finningley for treatment. The aircraft may be an O.T.U. aircraft. More information is required to confirm whether this occurred close to Sandtoft airfield (if so it was in Lincolnshire and needs deleting) or whether it was on the peatland west of Sandtoft and some of that is in Yorkshire. My next trip to the National Archives should yield more information in the records.
