On the night of 25th / 26th April 1942 this 77 Squadron aircraft was used to fly an operation flight to bomb Rostock and took off from Leeming at 21.22hrs. They bombed the target area from 12,000 feet. On their approach to land at Leeming the aircraft's starboard engine failed. The crew were cancelled permission to land at Leeming for three times and were forced to fly a circuit of the airfield. At 06.05hrs on the fourth attempt the aircraft landed but off the runway, it landed fast, then overshot and struck an obstruction causing the undercarriage to collapse.
