Whitley Z9165 at Driffield airfield.
On 27th October 1942 this No.1484 (Bombing) Gunnery Flight aircraft was taxied into by Battle L5792 on the ground at Driffield airfield. The Battle sustained no damage. Whitley Z9165 sustained a damaged tail and fin.

Whitley Z9165 was built to contract 106962/40 by Armstrong Whitworth Ltd. at Baginton and was awaiting collection on 11th September 1941. It was initially taken on charge by 51 Squadron at Dishforth in November 1941 where it was coded "MH-T" and served as a replacement for Whitley X9220 lost on 31st October 1941. On an unknown date in 1942 it was transferred to 1484 Flight at Driffield. As a result of the mishap on 27th October 1942 Cat.A/FA damage resulted from the assessment and it was repaired on site and returned to the unit. On 11th February 1943 it sustained minor damage following a minor collision with Martinet HN591 and again Cat.A/FA was the damage assessment. It was repaired on site and returned to the unit. It next served with 1478 Flight at Hinton in the Hedges, who had formed in mid-May 1943, they moved to Portreath on 11th June 1943. On 12th June 1943 No.1478 Flight flew to the Middle East but Whitley Z9165 remained behind in England and was transferred to 24 O.T.U. at Honeybourne. By April 1944 it was in long term MU storage and was struck off charge on 19th April 1945.
