Whitley Z9123 near Harpham, Driffield.

On 9th October 1942 this 3 (Coastal) Operational Trainin Unit aircraft was being flown on a navigational training exercise when one engine failed. The aircraft would not maintain height on just one engine and at 12.45hrs it was force landed near Driffield. The aircraft must have been fairly badly damaged as a Cat.B assessment was made which saw it taken for repair at a works factory. The AM Form 1180 for this incident appears to state the location was "Marpham" though this should proabably read Harpham. Driffield airfield's record book states that the aircraft landed near Lowthorpe Station, that they sent an ambulance and that the crew of six were unhurt.
