Oxford X6654 near Market Weighton.

On 28th February 1942 this No.14 (P)A.F.U. aircraft took off from Leconfield airfield and headed roughly west but failed to gain height, it later stalled and the pilot lost control. The Oxford finally crashed into a hedge just over a mile from Market Weighton at 15.45hrs. It may have struck an obstruction soon after leaving the ground but full details of this are not yet known. The location given in the casualty file of the crew states it was near the York road and on the north side of the railway line. This would put it somewhere near Towthorpe Lane Bridge. It sustained enough damage for it to be written off.
