Halifax W7917 caught fire in the air, landed at Pocklington airfield.
On the evening of 22nd November 1942 this 102 Squadron was to have flown an operational flight to bomb Stuttgart. The aircraft took off from Pocklington at 17.30hrs but soon after taking off the port outer engine failed and then caught fire. The crew were forced to jettison the bomb load to maintain height and returned to Pocklington, landing at 18.04hrs. The station commander commended the pilot for superb airmanship.
