Lancaster W4312 was built to contract B.69274/40 by A.V.Roe and Co. Ltd. at Chadderton and was awaiting collection in October 1942. It was taken on charge by 101 Squadron on 16th October 1942 at Holme-on-Spalding Moor. On 21st November 1942 it sustained minor Cat.Ac/FA damage when the tail wheel was found to be damaged at Holme on Spalding Moor. It was repaired on site quickly and returned to 101 Squadron to be used operationally on 5th December 1942. On 20th and also on 21st December 1942 it was returned early from operational flights because of a problem with the oil pressure to the rear turret. As a result of a crash at Holme on Spalding Moor on 23rd December 1942 Cat.E/FA damage was the assessment and it was struck off charge.
