Spitfire W3771 at Hutton Cranswick airfield.
While being flown on sector reconnaissance flight on 10th March 1942 the canopy of this 610 Squadron aircraft jammed on the approach to land at Hutton Cranswisk airfield. At 15.00hrs, instead of flying another circuit of the airfield to try and fix the problem the pilot went in and landed. Visbility through the canopy must have been the issue though the AM Form 1180 does not state as much. Unfortunately the aircraft made a fast landing, overshot and struck a stationary lorry.
Pilot - 2Lt A Bartleman (95880).
