Hudson V9020 was built to B.P.C. contract A-68 by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation at Burbank, California, USA and was transported by sea to the UK arriving Liverpool in July 1941. It was then taken by road to the Lockheed Assembly Division (UK) Ltd. at Speke the same month where it was assembled. After preparation at 10 MU from 17th September 1941 it taken on charge by No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit at Thornaby on 11th November 1941. Minor Cat.A/FA damage was the damage assessment made after a flying accident at Thornaby on 7th February 1942 and a repair on site was later carried on 10th February 1942. It was then returned to 6 (C)O.T.U. on 19th February 1942. The aircraft's AM Form 78 lists two further damage assessments for possible accident damage although no information about these is known. No.43 Group Damage Assessors inspected it on 4th March 1942 and a repair on site was complete on 12th March 1942. On 26th April 1942 a Cat.Ac/FA damage assessment was made, this was subsequently upgraded to Re-Cat.B on 9th May 1942 but it was still repaired on site and then returned to 6 (C)O.T.U. on 7th June 1942. It was then damaged on landing at Thornaby on 9th June 1942, Cat.B/FA damage was the initial damage assessment but this was then upgraded to Re-Cat.E on 20th July 1942 during a repair in works and it was struck off charge.
