Blenheim V5564 at Church Fenton airfield.

On 2nd April 1942 this No.54 Operational Training Unit aircraft crash landed at Church Fenton airfield when the starboard engine cut out as it was landing, the wreckage caught fire but the crew escaped serious injury. The aircraft later burnt out on the ground and was totally destroyed.

Blenheim V5564 was built to contract 1485/39 by Rootes Securities Ltd. at Blyth Bridge and was awaiting collection in November 1940. It was then taken on charge in early 1941 by 13 OTU at Bicester and transferred to 54 OTU at Church Fenton on an unknown date. As a result of the damage sustained at Church Fenton on 2nd April 1942 Cat.E2/FA Burnt damage was the assessment and it was written off.
