Hudson T9290 at Thornaby airfield.

On 16th October 1942 this No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft crashed on landing at Thornaby after suffering from undercarriage hydraulic failure.

Hudson T9290 was built to B.P.C. Contract A-67 by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation at Burbank, California and was delivered by sea to the UK, arriving in May 1940. It was transported by road to Speke where it was assembled and tested by the Lockheed Assembly Division (UK) Ltd. On 28th May 1940 it went to 24 MU and on 25th August 1940 it was taken on charge by the P.R.U. at Heston. On 6th November 1940 the P.R.U. was re-designated No.1 P.R.U.. On 27th December 1940 it moved with this unit to Benson. On 22nd January 1941 it was transferred to 220 Squadron. T9290 was transferred to No.6 (C)O.T.U. at Thornaby on 24th August 1941. On 3rd March 1942 it received a Cat.Ac/FA damage assessment that saw it repaired on site and returned to the unit. Once repaired it was returned to No.6 (C)OTU on 11th April 1942. On 29th April 1942 it went to Cunliffe Owen for a repair in works following a Cat.B assessment. It returned to No.6 (C)OTU on 9th August 1942. It sustained Cat.Ac/FA damage on 16th October 1942 when it crashed at Thornaby.It took until 3rd March 1943 for it to be returned to No.6 (C) OTU charge but it was then taken on charge by No.1 (C)OTU at Thornaby on 25th March 1943. On 23rd April 1943 it went to 10 MU and was then taken on charge by the ATA on 5th June 1943. The aircraft lasted until being struck off charge on 28th May 1945.
