Beaufighter MkIc T4799 at Catfoss airfield.
On 20th July 1942 Beaufighter T4799, of No.2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit, based at Catfoss had a Cat.B damage assessment made against it which was later downgraded to Re-Cat.Ac and it was repaired on site. This suggests that the damage came about through some form of flying accident though no information is known as to how this occurred.

Beaufighter T4799 was built to contract B.41908/39 by Fairey Aviation Ltd. at Stockport and was initially flown to 18 MU at Dumfries on 2nd October 1941. It was then taken on charge by No.2 (C)OTU at Catfoss on 10th October 1941. On 20th July 1942 it had a Cat.B damage assessment made against it. This was later downgraded to Re-Cat.Ac/FA and it was repaired on site to be then returned to 2 (C)OTU charge. On 24th April 1943 the undercarriage collapsed on landing, probably at Catfoss. Cat.Ac/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was again repaired on site. On 23rd February 1944 it went to 46 MU at Lossiemouth and on 11th May 1944 it went to 32 MU at St.Athan. On 17th May 1944 it went to the Bristol Aeroplane Company Ltd. at Filton and on 27th November 1944 it was declared Cat.E so it was then struck off charge.
