Beaufighter T4769 at Catfoss airfield.

On 19th October 1942 this 2 (C)OTU aircraft swung on take-off, damage was reported to have been sustained to the port undercarriage, the port mainplane and the port engine was shock loaded. Whilst the unit ORB does not state the undercarriage collapsed this does seems likely given the known damage. The damage was reported as minor and it was later repaired.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Beaufighter T4769 was built to contract B.41906/39 by Fairey Aviation Ltd, at Heaton Chapel, Stockport and was awaiting collection in June 1941. After a lengthy period of MU storage it was taken on charge by 236 Squadron at Carew Cheriton in October 1941 when the unit commenced operating the type. It later moved with the squadron to Wattisham on 9th February 1942. In September 1942 236 Squadron ceased operating Beaufighter MkIf's so around 3rd September 1942 the this aircraft was transferred to 2 (C)OTU at Catfoss. As a result of minor damage sustained there on 19th October 1942 Cat.A(c)/FA was probably the assessment though there is no mention of it in the published history. It would have been repaired on site at Catfoss. On an unknown date in 1943 it was transferred to 9 OTU at Crosby on Eden. On 11th August 1944 9 OTU disbanded so the aircraft was placed in long term MU storage pending disposal. It was struck off charge on 3rd May 1945.
