Beaufighter T4730 near North Frodingham.
On 25th April 1942 this 2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft crashed during a forced landing at Frodingham Grange near Catfoss due to both engines failing soon after take off from Catfoss. The accident investigation found that the pilot had incorrectly set the fuel cocks and the engines were starved of fuel. The aircraft was badly damaged and later written off.

Walter Amos was killed on 12th November 1942 flying 235 Squadron Beaufighter T5284. He is buried in Helston Cemetery.
Beaufighter T4730 was built to contract B.41906/39 by the Fairey Aviation Co. Ltd. at Heaton Chapel, Stockport and was awaiting collection in May 1941. After a short period of MU storage it was taken on charge by 248 Squadron at Bircham Newton in July 1941 when the unit began conversion from Blenheim IVf's to Beaufighters. In October 1941 it was transferred to 236 Squadron at Carew Cherition and on 9th February 1942 it was then transferred to 2 (C)O.T.U. at Catfoss. As a result of the crash on 25th April 1942 Cat.E/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was struck off charge.
