Lysander T1611 near Healaugh, Tadcaster.
On 5th February 1942 the pilot of this aircraft was undertaking a training flight when the engine failed after flying into a snowstorm, he made a force landing in a field near Healaugh but landed on boggy ground near a stream and the aircraft tipped onto it's back. The pilot was not seriously injured and walked to the nearest farm where he met the farmer's son who went to Healaugh village to summon help. The aircraft was not recovered for some weeks during which time the guards lodged at the nearby farm.

Lysander T1611 was built to contract 23637/39 by The Westland Aircraft Co. Ltd. at Yeovil and was awaiting collection in November 1940. It was initially retained by the makers and converted to Target Towing (T.T.) status before being taken on charge by 57 OTU at Hawarden on an unknown date in 1941. It was later transferred to 54 OTU on an unknown date and as a result of the crash on 5th February 1942 it was not repaired with Cat.E/FA damage being recorded.
