Lysander T1558 at Thornaby airfield.

On 3rd April 1942 this 6 (C)OTU aircraft is listed in the unit orb as being slightly damaged following a taxying accident, almost certainly at their airfield of Thornaby.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Lysander T1558's published history is far from complete. It was built to contract 23637/39 by The Westland Aircraft Co. Ltd. at Yeovil and was awaiting collection in October 1940. After a substantial period of MU storage it was taken on charge by 6 (C)OTU on an unknown date. The damage sustained on 3rd April 1942 is not listed in the history but it was probably minor Cat.A/FA resulting in a repair on site. On an unknown date it was transferred to 7 (C)OTU at Limavady where, on 9th October 1943, it was force landed in Lough Foyle. Cat.E/FA damage was then recorded and the aircraft was written off.
