Oxford R6358 collided in air, landed safely.

On 19th May 1942 this No.15 (Pilot) Advanced Flying Unit aircraft collided in the air with Oxford L9647 over Burton Fleming while on a formation flying exercise. The other aircraft dived into the ground and crashed near Burton Fleming on the Yorkshire Wolds. The pilot of this aircraft regained control and made a safe landing although the location for this landing is not yet known (it was probably back at the home airfield of Leconfield).

Pilot - Sgt Paterson.

Oxford R6358 was built to contract B.20356/39 by The De Havilland Aircraft Co. Ltd. at Hatfield and was awaiting collection in April 1940. It was taken on charge by the Royal Air Force College Cranwell on 7th May 1940 where it was used until transfer to 15 SFTS at Kidlington on 15th September 1941. It moved with 15 SFTS to Leconfield on 28th February 1942 and the following day 15 SFTS was re-designated as 15 (P)AFU. As a result of the collision on 19th May 1942 Cat.A/FA damage was the assessment and it was repaired on site and returned to the unit. On 30th July 1943 it was transferred to 18 (P)AFU at Church Lawford and on 27th February 1944 it was transferred to the USAAF but the unit details are not yet known. On 16th September 1944 it returned to RAF charge and nothing more is known about the aircraft after this date.
