Lancaster R5743 at Lindholme airfield.
Just before midday on 18th November 1942 this 83 Squadron took off from Wyton to undertake a training flight. Fifty minutes into the flight and with a strong wind and in poor visibility the pilot attempted a landing at Lindholme at 12.28hrs but overshot and ran into the boundary hedge causing Cat.B damage. The pilot was said to have been to blame for the incident, if the visibility became poor his order was to have been to return to Scampton, he also did not obtain R/T permission to land at Lindholme.

The pilot was killed in a crash in 1955 in Canada.
Lancaster R5743 was delivered as new to 83 Squadron on 19th July 1942. It received Cat.B/FA damage as a result of the crash at Lindholme on 18th November 1942, a repair on site was begun on 24th November 1942 and it was returned to 83 Squadron on 24th December 1942. The aircraft failed to return from Ops to Wilhelmshaven on 19th February 1943 that saw it's then crew all killed. Cat.Em damage was the damage assessment and the aircraft was struck off charge on 25th February 1943.
