On 21st August 1942 the tail oleo strut of this 25 O.T.U. aircraft broke while taxying at Finningley during night flying training. Minor damage resulted.

Crew - Names unknown.
P/O Edgar Burgess was killed flying with 103 Squadron on 21st January 1943 when Lancaster W4340 failed to return from Ops to Essen. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
Wellington R1521 was built to contract 992424/39 by Vickers Armstrong's Ltd. at Hawarden and was awaiting collection in February 1941. It was initially received by 37 MU on 21st February 1941 and was taken on charge by 25 O.T.U. at Finningley on 13th May 1941. On 22nd June 1942 it was slightly damaged at Finningley which saw Cat.Ac/FA damage be the assessment and it was repaired on site by a team from Fairfields. Once repaired it was returned to 25 O.T.U. on 1st August 1942. It was then damaged again at Finningley on 21st August 1942 which resulted in further Cat.Ac/FA damage. Again it was repaired on site by Fairfields. The aircraft was returned to 25 O.T.U. on 5th September 1942 but was immediately transferred to 30 O.T.U. at Hixon two days later. On 11th January 1943 it passed to 28 O.T.U. at Wymeswold. in October 1943 it was deemed Cat.B damaged during a routine assessment that saw it taken for a repair in works that probably saw it converted to a Mk.XVI status at this stage also. Once fixed it was flown to 18 MU on 15th August 1943. On 7th December 1944 it was taken on charge by 242 Squadron at Stoney Cross but on 22nd March 1945 it was placed in MU store with 8 MU. It was struck off charge on 30th April 1946.
