Spitfire P8167 at Pocklington airfield.

During the afternoon of 28th March 1942 this 610 Squadron aircraft was flown on a formation flying exercise and took off from Hutton Cranswick airfield. During the flight this aircraft left the formation, possibly owing to a perceived fuel shortage, and landed at Pocklington airfield at 15.45hrs because the pilot probbaly felt he could not make it back to his base at Hutton Cranswick. While taxying around Pocklington airfield one of the main wheels ran into a hole which caused the aircraft to tip onto it's nose and it received minor damage. At the time Pocklington airfield only had servicable runways but this was not known to the pilot.

Pilot - Sgt Ian Roy McLennan RCAF (R/70978).
