Spitfire P8038 at Catterick airfield.
During the afternoon of 29th March 1942 this 332 Squadron aircraft had been flown on a training flight when the engine cut out while the pilot was returning to Catterick to land. The pilot attempted to restart it in the air but was unsucessful and as he was in range of his airfield he attempted to glide back to Catterick. At 15.05hrs he made a hurried landing in a crosswind. The landing was made on one wheel because of the wind and the aircraft must have sustained some damage as a result although the unit records and the AM Form 1180 do not state exactly what was damaged.
Pilot - Sgt Nils Andreas Ringdal RNoAF (118).
