Oxford N6430 near Marston Moor airfield.

On 23rd August 1942 this aircraft suffered engine failure and the pilot force landed it in a field around half a mile south west of Marston Moor airfield. The crew were probably undertaking a training flight with 15 (P)AFU but the incident is not recorded in the 15 (P)AFU Record Book.

Oxford N6430 was built to contract 777546/38 by Airspeed Ltd. at their Portsmouth factory and was awaiting collection in October 1939. It was initially placed in long term MU storage before being taken on charge by 23 FTS on 7th July 1940 who were based at South Cerney. It remained in use by them until 15th May 1942 when it was again placed in MU storage. On 7th July 1942 it was taken on charge by 15 (P)AFU at Leconfield but as a result of the flying accident on 23rd August 1942 repairable Cat.B/FA damage was the assessment. From Marston Moor it was dismantled and transported by road for repair by Airspeed Ltd. at Portsmouth. On completion of repair it returned to MU storage. On 30th July 1943 it was taken on charge by 18 (P)AFU at Church Lawford and remained in their care until being struck off charge on 22nd June 1944.
