Defiant N3513 was built to contract 751867/38 by Boulton & Paul Ltd. at Wolverhampton and was awaiting collection in February 1941. It was taken on charge almost immediately by 54 OTU at Church Fenton. On 16th June 1941 it transferred to 60 OTU at East Fortune but in October 1941 60 OTU ceased operating the type of aircraft so it was placed in long term MU storage. On 26th September 1942 it was taken on charge by 1481 (Bomber) Gunnery Flight at Blyton then moved with them to Lindholme on 2nd November 1942. As a result of the damage sustained on 29th November 1942 minor Cat.A/FA resulted and it was repaired on site. The aircraft was returned to the gunnery flight use and moved with them to Binbrook on 7th May 1943 and Ingham on 7th March 1944. On 4th December 1944 the unit disbanded and the aircraft was placed in MU storage pending disposal. It was struck off charge on 16th January 1945 after a fine period of gunnery flight service.
