Wellington N2899 at (possibly) Lindholme airfield.

Stated as being on 7th May 1942 this aircraft is believed to have caught fire and burnt on the ground while it was being refuelled (probably) at Lindholme airfield. It was deemed too badly damaged to warrant a repair.

Wellington N2899 was built to contract 549060/36 by Vickers Armstrong's Ltd. at Weybridge and was awaiting collection on 4th September 1939. It was allotted to 115 Squadron on 28th September 1939 and was taken on charge by 115 Squadron at Marham on 10th October 1939. On 25th April 1940 it was flown to 23 MU and was probably placed in store. On 28th October 1940 it was flown to Vickers Service Repair Section for some form of work or modifications to be carried out. On 1st November 1940 it was taken on charge by 304 Squadron at Bramcote and remained with them for the next eighteen months, moving to Syerston with them on 2nd December 1940 and to Lindholme on 19th July 1941. On 23rd March 1942 it was slightly damaged in a flying accident that saw Cat.Ac/FA damage be the damage assessment. Once repaired it was returned to 304 Squadron on 2nd May 1942. As a result of the incident believed to have been on 7th May 1942 Cat.E2/FA damage was the damage assessment that saw it written off.
