Blenheim K7174 at Catfoss airfield.

On 12th May 1942 this aircraft suffered from an engine / engines cutting out on landing at Catfoss airfield, the aircraft then overshot and crashed into the overshoot area.

Blenheim K7174 was built to contract 43506/35 by The Bristol Aeroplane Co. Ltd. at Filton and taken on charge by 62 Squadron at Cranfield on 12th February 1938. On 12th August 1939 62 Squadron left for the Middle East and K7174 was left behind in England. Three days later it was taken on charge by 82 Squadron at Cranfield and then moved to Watton with them on 25th August 1939. A month later on 28th September 1939 it was flown to 9 MU at Cosford then on 21st November 1939 it was taken on charge by the Central Flying School at Upavon. On 12th November 1940 it was flown to 33 MU at Lyneham for storage and remained in store until 22nd September 1941 when it was taken on charge by 2 (C)OTU at Catfoss. As a result of the damage sustained at Catfoss on 12th May 1942 Cat.B/FA damage was the assessment and it was dismantled and transported by road to John Curran Ltd. at Cardiff for repair. On 8th February 1943 on completion of the repair it was flown to 9 MU at Cosford and then taken on charge by 12 (P)AFU on 8th March 1943 at Grantham. On 16th May 1943 it struck a hedge on take off from Grantham and crashed. Cat.E/FA damage was the result of the assessment and it was written off.
