Harrow K6949 at Doncaster airfield.

On 27th October 1942 this 271 Squadron aircraft was stationary at Doncaster airfield when it was struck by a contractor's vehicle.

Pilot - Possibly none.

Harrow K6949 was built to contract 435062/35 by Handley Page Ltd. at Radlett and was delivered to 37 Squadron at Feltwell on 13th April 1937. On 24th November 1937 it was transferred to 75 Squadron at Driffield who moved to Honington on 11th July 1938. On 10th July 1939 the aircraft was flown to 6 M.U. at Brize Norton and then taken on charge by 9 A.O.S. at Penrhos on 12th September 1939. On 9th April 1940 it was transferred to 1 A.A.S. at Manby and then to 14 Group Com. Flight at Inverness / Longman on 23rd April 1941. It was then transferred to 271 Squadron on 10th March 1942 based at Doncaster. As a result of minor damage sustained on 27th October 1942 Cat.A/GA was probably the damage assessment but there is no mention of it in the published Air Britain history of the aircraft. It was repaired on site and resumed use by 271 Squadron who later moved to Down Ampney on 29th February 1944. The unit was detached to various locations in support of the invasion of Europe. On 26th March 1945 the undercarriage collapsed whilst being towed out of mud at Gilze-Rijen airfield. Cat.E/GA damage was the damage assessment and it was written off.
