On 28th August 1942 this 1446 (Ferry Training) Flight aircraft was being flown over Sheffield, probably as part of a cross country training flight, when it flew into two barrage balloon cables. Sustaining minor damage the pilot was able to remain in control and returned safely to his home airfield of Moreton in Marsh landing safely. Minor Cat.Ac damage resulted.

Wellington HX574 was built to contract B.71441/40 by Vickers Armstrong’s Ltd. at Weybridge and was awaiting collection in June 1942. Tt was received by 32 M.U. on 30th June 1942 who then passed it to 51 M.U. on 18th July 1944 prior to issue to the O.A.P.U. on 9th August 1942. The aircraft was taken on charge by 1446 (Ferry Training) Flight at Moreton-in-Marsh on 13th August 1942. As a result of the damage on 28th August 1942 Cat.A(c)/FA damage was the assessment. The aircraft was repaired on site and was returned to 1446 Flight on 5th September 1942. It was returned to the O.A.P.U. on 16th September 1942 and was the issued to 1443 (Ferry Training) Flight at Harwell on 24th October 1944. On 21st October 1942 it sustained cat.Ac/FA damage in a minor flying accident which was repaired on site. It was then returned to 1443 Flight on 21st November 1942 and then passed to 1 O.A.D.U. at Portreath on 9th December 1942 for preparation for an overseas flight. It received torpedo carrying and tropical modifications while in the UK. The aircraft was then flown towards India, it arrived in the Middle East on 27th December 1942 and then arrived in India on 9th January 1943. Nothing is known about it's service in India other than the aircraft was struck off charge on 30th November 1944.
