Argus FK339 was built by the Fairchild Aviation Corporation at their subsidiary company, Kreider-Reisner Aircraft, Hagerstown, Maryland, USA for the USAAF as 42-32144 but purchased by the B.P.C. under contract DA-915 and shipped to the UK by sea arriving Liverpool in July 1942. From the docks it was taken by road to No.7 AAU at Hooton Park for assembly and testing. It was taken on charge by the ATA for use by them but no date is specified in the published history and at the time of the mishap in November 1942 it was on charge with 7 Ferry Pilot Pool at Sherburn in Elmet. as a result of the damage on 18th November 1942 minor Cat.A/GA damage was the assessment and it was repaired on site and returned to the unit where it remained until being deemed beyond economic repair and struck off charge on 10th June 1945.
