On 18th November 1942 this aircraft was having it's engine run up at Sherburn airfield but was left un-chocked, the Fitter/Rigger H.Broomhead was working on the aircraft and having left it unattended was unable to stop it moving forward and colliding with Argus FK339. Both aircraft sustained damage. The aircraft was used by the ATA as a runabout aircraft.
No crew.
The Fitter / Rigger was probably Harry Broomhead, he served in the ATA between 18th April 1942 and 13th October 1945 and when he left he was a tractor driver.
Argus FK332 was built by the Fairchild Aviation Corporation at their subsidiary company, Kreider-Reisner Aircraft, Hagerstown, Maryland, USA for the USAAF as 42-32137 but was purchased by the B.P.C. under contract DA-915 and shipped to the UK by sea arriving Liverpool in July 1942. From the docks it was taken by road to No.7 AAU at Hooton Park for assembly and testing. It was taken on charge by the ATA but no date is specified in the published history and it was issued / taken on charge 7 Feryy Pilot Pool at Sherburn in Elmet. As a result of the incident on 18th November 1942 Cat.A/GA was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site and returned to the unit where it remained until deemed beyond economic repair and struck off charge on 7th July 1945.
