Wellington DV440 at Finningley airfield.

On 15th March 1942 this 25 O.T.U. aircraft was being taxied around Finningley airfield to a dispersal point when it collided with a fuel bowser. A propeller was damaged.

Crew - Names unknown.


Wellington DV440 was built to contract B.124362/40 by Vickers Armstrong's Ltd. at Hawarden and was awaiting collection in November 1941. It was received by 46 MU on 25th November 1941 and was taken on charge by 25 O.T.U. at Finningley on 13th December 1941. As a result of the mishap on 15th March 1942 minor Cat.A/FA damage resulted and it was repaired on site though this incident does not get recorded on the aircraft's AM Form 78. The aircraft later transferred to 26 O.T.U. at Wing on 1st October 1942 and finally to 21 O.T.U. at Moreton in Marsh onn 4th May 1943. On 29th November 194 it was flown into store at 23 MU and was struck off charge on 1st September 1944.
