During the evening of 13th November 1942 this aircraft was being ferried from what appears to have been another airfield from where a landing had to be made earlier in the months back to join 10 Squadron at Melbourne. The flight lasted ninety minutes. On landing at Pocklington airfield at 19.45hrs the pilot did not ensure that the undercarriage was fully locked down and it then retracted on touching down. Why the landing was made at Pocklington and not Melbourne (where 10 Squadron were based is not yet clear).
On the night of 7th / 8th November 1942 this aircraft had landed at Hunsden on return from Ops to Genoa though doesn't appear to have been damaged. This is the last time 10 Squadron used it operationally prior to 13th November 1942. It could well be that the ferry flight was returning the aircraft to Yorkshire from Hunsden when this incident occurred.
Pilot - P/O John Alistair Wann RCAF (J/9543).
